How do you respond to a disturbance that takes you away from equilibrium or balance, whether mentally or physically?

Moti Nativ says, "Dynamic stability is the ability to react effectively to a disturbance that takes us away from equilibrium and balance, mentally and physically."

Dynamic Stability and the Art of Falling, is a Canadian Feldenkrais Guild Advanced Training, the first in-person Advanced Training in many years.

You may, or may not know about Moti Nativ, and it is likely you have not attended a workshop with him. Some have seen him at the FGNA conferences over the past decade – he has been brought in 5 or six times. He has regularly provided workshops in the Washington DC area, sponsored by the local Region of the Guild. He has also presented elsewhere around the world on topics related to Feldenkrais.

I am writing to tell you why I have asked him to come to Calgary. His workshops are exemplary: for in his clear, understandable  manner, Moti informs us of a basic aspect of the Feldenkrais Method, and a basic aspect of our humanness.

Moti has studied stability, falling and righting oneself from many different perspectives. He writes,

“I have written and lectured many times on this topic. As I taught more and gained insight from working with diverse groups of students in the Feldenkrais Method and martial arts, I noticed the participants often had difficulty understanding theoretical explanations. Practical, experiential learning is very helpful for understanding the theory!”

You will gain insights from his workshop for your teaching, either individually and/or in your group classes and workshops.  He presents the theory in a way that is understandable, and he underlines the theory with clear demonstrations. Then, to imbed the theory, his ATM’s are designed to inform the participant at multiple levels.

Moti writes, "We practice the principles of the Feldenkrais Method of somatic education, explaining principles of efficient and effortless action. You will experience meaningful yet unfamiliar movements, practical yet challenging actions, in a dynamic and safe way. Learn to elicit rapid recruitment of more efficient movement patterns using Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons in a safe and interactive situation. Explore the use of gravity, momentum, timing, and direction of movement to develop abilities such as the dynamic management of balance and counterbalance, and effective interaction with the environment. This workshop will be engaging, transformational and fun for all! "

About Moti Nativ

Moti is a retired Colonel from the Israeli Defense Force, is a certified Feldenkrais practitioner and master teacher of Bujinkan - Budo TaiJutsu. He holds a black belt in Judo and is a certified Krav Maga instructor. He served as past president of the Israeli Feldenkrais Guild. Moti has deeply studied the work of Dr. Feldenkrais and has been especially intrigued with the early thinking of Dr. Feldenkrais, and has studies his writings very carefully. Moti lives in Tel Aviv, Israel, and travels extensively. He is coming to Calgary exclusively for this workshop.

"My life-long research into movement brings me deeper into the roots of Dr. Feldenkrais' work. I reveal his development as a martial artist and show the links between this process and the development of the Feldenkrais Method. Moshe’s book On Better Judo provides evidence of Feldenkrais' transformational process from a Judo Master to becoming the founder of the Feldenkrais Method.”

Travel and Accommodation Considerations.

We are a community, and thus, local practitioners have opened their doors (and spare rooms) for you – and we can help you organize this (just fill in the details when you register).

The Canadian Region is subsidizing the fees for those who are Full (Canadian) Members -- the Early Bird fee is $260. So book soon!

About Regional Advanced Trainings.

What does it mean that this is a Region-sponsored Advanced Training? It means that:

  1. the instructor may offer the workshop at a lower rate than his regular professional fee
  2. The Region provides some funding for the workshop from member fees
  3. The workshop fee is kept low for practitioner members.
  4. The workshop is designed to break-even, with no profit for the organizer.

For years, the challenge of planning a Canadian Regional Advanced Training has seemed insurmountable. Now, with new technology, we are finding new ways to bring affordable advanced training to Canadians. For example,  last year, the Region sponsored a full-day workshop with Olena Nitefor using video conferencing software (and there are plans for another one to be available in November).

Others would like to attend but cannot fly in. We hope to accommodate you with video conferencing technology: You can participate in the workshop in your own home, studio, or join with others in a local site to participate in the workshop (we only ask that all who participate in this way have paid the online fees).

All of these features can be found at professional Conferences, and the fees for these Conferences or workshops is very high – usually $400 per day.

We are keeping the costs to you down as low as possible – but we need to break even, and we have deadlines. So, please register soon – don’t wait.

In case you are wondering, the workshop will also be open to the public. This has been a model used in the regional workshops in Washington DC, and it has demonstrated that the public that come are usually familiar with the Feldenkrais Method, and many have professional interests that add to the depth of the discussions.
